העיתון "Financial Times" חשף כי ארצות הברית ניהלה מבצע חשאי ממושך שנמשך ארבעה חודשים לפינוי מוקשים ימיים ממצר הורמוז. המבצע בוצע בעיקר בשעות הלילה על ידי לוחמי קומנדו ימי של הצי האמריקאי (Navy SEALs), תוך שימוש בכלי שיט רובוטיים ובטכנולוגיות תת-מימיות מתקדמות, במטרה לאבטח את נתיבי השיט הבינלאומיים בצל האיומים האיראניים באזור.
